“Because of You” and “I got Rhythm” are only a few of the Tony Bennett classics Eddie Bruce has lined up for his upcoming performance “Bruce on Bennett: A Loving Tribute to an American Music Treasure.” The concert is scheduled for Sunday Jan. 10 at 8:30 p.m. at the New York City nightclub Feinstein’s at Loews Regency.
Bringing his personal interpretation to Bennett’s jazz hits, and adding special anecdotes about the singer’s impact on his own life, Bruce makes it no secret to his audience that h he has been a Bennett devotee for many years.
“I’ve been listening to Tony since I was a kid. I remember when his album, ‘Art of Excellence’ was released over 20 years ago, I literally wore it out, listening so much,” Bruce said in a press release. “Tony Bennett has truly been a source of inspiration throughout my life. Doing a show on his music and producing a CD is a joy for me.”
Bruce’s new solo recording, the self-produced Bruce on Bennett, was released in February. The album is a collection of 13 songs, accompanied by piano, bass, drums and guitar, formed as a tribute to Bennett. Selections for the show are set to include tracks from the album such as “I Got Rhythm,” and “If I Ruled the World,” in addition to “Because of You,” “Just in Time,” and “Steppin’ Out,” among many others.
As a child growing up in Philadelphia, Bruce performed on television talent shows, in local theater and various events throughout the city. In the 1980’s Bruce served as the first host of the dance music reality show “Dancin’ on Air” and was a talk show host on WWDB-FM out of Philadelphia.
Bruce also performs with a band and can be hired for social events. The Eddie Bruce Orchestra has performed in venues throughout Atlantic City and Philadelphia. Bruce also performs a show entitled “Newley Discovered” dedicated to the legendary singer and composer Anthony Newley.
